BUDDHA

The Buddha statue is carved out of sandstone and sits on a molded platform throne with out any trace of a back, and his feet rest on a circular projection. On the surface of the pedestal, there is a thin rug carved out of pattern covering the front.

The statue has round face, kindness, spiral hair. Unisa on the top of the head, wide forehead, and thin eyebrows, arched slightly. His open eyes downcast. Nasal bridge is high and slender. The lips are full, the corners of the deep lips showed a saintly smile. The ears are thick, with long ear lobes to the shoulder, and the helixes are well rounded.

Buddha’s monastic robe covered on right shoulder. The figure’s right hand is broken. The hands and feet clearly show the fingernails and toenails. These details are polished to perfection, vivid.

This is an original, exclusive and extremely rare and typical work of historical and cultural value belonging to Oc Eo culture (Century VI - VII) of Funan kingdom’s inhabitants and the statue was found in Son Tho - Tra Vinh.
