In the 18th century, the Tây Sơn insurrection broke in Quy Nhơn (1771) in the momentum of peasant movements against the partition influences of the Lê Dynasty – the Trịnh Lords (in the North), the Nguyễn Lords (in the South).
Being attended by lots of classes of people and leaded by Nguyễn Nhạc, Nguyễn Huệ, the Tây Sơn uprising developed rapidly, strove to play its historic role: overthrew the Nguyễn Lords, defeated the Siamese aggressors, overthrew the Trịnh Lords, wiped out the Lê Dynasty, annihilated the Qing aggressors, achieved firstly in the work of protecting the national independence and unificating the nation.
In 1778, the Tây Sơn Dynasty was founded by Nguyễn Nhạc and from 1788, Nguyễn Huệ ascended the throne, the Tây sơn Dynasty tried its best to renew the economy, restore the culture, carry out the progressive reforms of national management.
